As of July 2016, the world has seen 537 astronauts make space flights. Sixty of those brave souls were women. The first was Valentina Tereshkova on the Vostok 6, launched June 16, 1963. The world wouldn't see another woman in space for 19 years. It was in 1982 that Svetlana Savitskaya became the second woman in space.
