Where did the "Extreme Ironing" sport originate?

  • England correct

It definitely sounds bizarre. Most of the popular extreme sports are unusual but "Extreme Ironing" probably takes the gold in this category. The premise of the sport is simple: competitors must find the most dangerous and bizarre places to iron clothes. Yes...they literally iron their clothes. The sport began in England with only a few British folks participating. In the late 1990s, the sport spread internationally and is now played by people from all around the world. Tony Haim of England invented "Extreme Ironing" in 1980. Inspired by his brother-in-law's ironing clothes in a camping tent, Haim began doing ironing in odd places and documenting the reaction of others. The sport gradually took off from that.
