What is a spinning jenny?
- machine for spinning wool or cotton
James Hargreaves' wife was his inspiration for the name he gave his invention. He improved on the existing spinning wheel to meet the increased demand for weavers. It was the first improvement on the spinning wheel. The spinning jenny had a frame with multiple spindles. This allowed the operator to spin up to eight spools at once.
