Who painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling?
The Sistine Chapel ceiling was painted between 1508 and 1512 by Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni at the commission of Pope Julius II. The chapel is the location for many important services and is Vatican City’s most popular tourist destination. Working on the Sistine Chapel was so unpleasant that Michelangelo wrote a poem about his misery.
