Who invented the typewriter?

  • Christopher Latham Sholes correct

Pennsylvania newspaperman and politician Christopher Latham Sholes collaborated with mechanic Carlos Glidden and inventor Samuel W. Soule to develop and patent the original design for the typewriter in 1868. Unfortunately, Sholes was unable to raise enough money to engineer the first prototype and five years later sold his rights to Remington Arms Company, which produced the first typewriter in 1878.
