Which tribe of Native Americans were present at the first Thanksgiving dinner?
According to the Manataka American Indian Council, here is what went down: A bunch of English Pilgrims landed on Massachusetts Bay and find a lone Indian named Squanto who had escaped from English slavery and knew their language. Squanto was cool. He taught them how to grow corn and he helped negotiate a peace treaty between the Wampanoag tribe and the new settlers. The first year was great and to celebrate they all sat down and had a meal together. Fun, right? Well word got out across the pond about how awesome the New World was and a new group of settlers came out and killed all the local Natives except the ones they felt would make good slaves. Over 700 men, women and children were murdered and the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony declared "A Day Of Thanksgiving" to honor those who had died.
