However, Iolani Palace in Honolulu is the only palace in American existence that did once house a monarchy. Iolani Palace began as the home to Kamehameha III under the Kamehameha Dynasty in 1845 and Queen Liliʻuokalani until 1893 when the monarchy was overthrown by the Americans. Now, Iolani palace serves as museum and a focal point for tourists.
