What book series has been banned in several countries?
- Harry Potter
Surprisingly, witches, ghosts and vampires do not bare the brunt of the banishment in the same way that 10-year-old wizards do. Schools in Connecticut and Georgia have banned the series because of it's "satanic-like magic". There are even places in Greece and Bulgaria where Harry Potter cannot be read. The former Pope Benedict XVI condemned the books saying they had "subtle seductions capable of corrupting young Christians" However, according to J.K. Rowling, that was actually the opposite of her intentions. Rowling was raised in the Church of Scotland and claims that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows is supposed to parallel the final fight between Jesus and the devil. "To me, the religious parallels have always been obvious," Rowling said. "But I never wanted to talk too openly about it because I thought it might show people who just wanted the story where we were going."
